Joe Basolo
Joe Basolo, 86, beloved husband and
father, died Monday February 2, 2009 at
Muskogee
Regional
Medical
Center.
He was born September 9, 1922 in McAlester, OK
to Joe and Emilie Fassino.
His mother died when he was 8 months old and John
and Florence Basolo then raised him.
He attended high school in McAlester where he played
on the football team.
He attended O.U. and was a member of the first
President’s Achievement Class for academic honors while
there. He
was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity while at O.U.
He was called up to serve in World War II and
left O.U. in 1944.
He married Mary Emily Snyder on
September 8, 1946.
They were devoted to each other in their 62 years
of marriage.
They moved to Muskogee after their
marriage in 1946.
Joe owned Basolo Auto Parts, which was located at
Seventh and Broadway in Muskogee for many years.
He managed rental property after he retired.
Joe was a very active member of Grace Episcopal
Church. He
taught Sunday school, served on the Vestry, was a Warden
and was a lay reader until his health declined.
He loved a good joke and time spent with their
many friends.
He loved to play golf and meet his buddies for
coffee. He
was always reading and trying to learn new things his
entire life.
He was a very patient and wise man who will be missed by
all those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; brother Charles Fassino; sisters: Amiee Ramay
and Angele Whetsell.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Em of
Muskogee, OK; daughters: Dr. Susan Kennedy of Tucson, AZ
and Nancy Green of Broken Arrow, OK; son John Basolo of
Muskogee, OK; grandchildren: Tom Kennedy, Joe Kennedy,
Bryan Green, Brandon Green and Jonathan Basolo;
great-grandchildren: Graham Kennedy, Brody Kennedy,
Julia Kennedy and Iris Kennedy.
He is also survived by his sisters Jane Sullivan
of Houston, TX and Kathleen Beard of Tulsa, OK.
