Funeral services for Mr. Scott
Herron Garner, 47, will be held on Saturday, February
14, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Kennedy-Amis-Kennard Funeral
Service Chapel in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Interment will
follow at the Floral Haven
Memorial
Gardens
in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Scott was born on December
27, 1961 in Tulsa, Oklahoma
to Alan J. Garner and Mary Sue (Highfill) Garner.
During 1981, he
graduated from Will
Rogers
High School, Special
Education Department. He
attended Tulsa
Vocational
Academy for Special
Education. He
was a member of Lynn
Lane
Baptist
Church, a church in which
his grandparents, Myrtle and John Clarence “J.C.”
Highfill were founders.
Scott loved to write short stories
with illustrations on each story page.
He wrote about
his everyday experiences and super heroes, with himself
at times as the central character.
He wrote
everyday. It was
one of his greatest pleasures.
He loved video
games, animal T.V. programs, dogs and cats.
He was well
known for his kindness and jokes.
Scott was diagnosed with Myotonic
Muscular Dystrophy in his early teens.
He made great
strides throughout his life to overcome the challenges
of this disease. On
January 8, 2009 Scott noticed a lump on the side of his
neck, which was later diagnosed as Anaplastic Thyroid
Cancer. It had
lodged itself within and around his esophagus and
trachea. He was
hospitalized on January 15 and surgery followed on
January 21.
His greatest wish was to return
home from the hospital.
Scott was released from the hospital the morning
of February 6 and passed away peacefully at his home in San Jose,
California
surrounded by family on the evening of February 7, 2009.
Scott is survived by his sister
Cindy Theriault of San Jose, California; brother Jim
Garner of Reno, Nevada; brother-in-law Bill Theriault of
San Jose, California; nieces: Melissa Scott of San Jose,
California, Sydney Garner of Lone Tree, Colorado, Sadie
Garner of Lone Tree, Colorado and Sofie Garner of Lone
Tree, Colorado; aunt JoAnn Jones of Tulsa, Oklahoma;
cousins: Michael David of Garland, Texas, Buddy Lentz of
Tulsa, Oklahoma, Beverly Lentz of Tulsa, Oklahoma,
Bonnie Rosenblatt of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Ben Lentz of
Phoenix, Arizona.
Scott was preceded in death by his
parents; 2 aunts: Cleo (Highfill) David and Ruby (Highfill)
Owens; 2 cousins: John Owens and Dava Dee David.
